今古窯細水差

マサチューセッツ州コンコードの旧工房で、鵬雲斎宗匠により「今古窯（KonkoGama）」と命名された場所で、マサチューセッツ州の赤土を用いて轆轤成形しました。半乾きの状態で面取りを施し、素焼き後にその面取り部分へ酸化鉄を塗布した上で、私のクリーム色の今古釉を掛け、酸化焼成（1200℃）しました。この作品が特に珍しいのは、アメリカから日本へ持ち帰り、利茶土窯（RichadoGama）でもう一度焼成した点にあります。その二度焼きによって、酸化鉄の発色と釉薬の流れがより引き立ち、単焼成では得られない豊かで温かみのある釉調が生まれました。

美しく仕上げられた溜塗りの蓋がわずかに弧を描き、作品全体に繊細な趣を添えています。底部に刻まれた「利茶土」の印は、この作品がアメリカで制作されたことを示しています。

真のクラシックであり、国際的な背景を持つ唯一無二の逸品です。

KonkoGama Hosomizusashi

Thrown with Massachusetts red clay at my former studio in Concord, Massachusetts, named KonkoGama by Hōunsai Sōshō, this piece was faceted when leather hard. After bisque firing the faceted areas were brushed with iron oxide before glazing with my yellow Konko glaze and oxidation fired to 1200℃. This piece is particularly rare because I brought it back to Japan and fired it again at RichadoGama which really enhanced the effect of the iron oxide as well as the flow of the glaze, creating a rich and warm glaze surface that can’t be achieved in a single firing. The slight arc of the beautifully crafted tame nuri (amber lacquer) lid adds a subtle touch to the overall character of the work. The stamp on the base reading RICHADO in kanji indicates I made the piece in the USA.
